Brazil in April

Is April a good time to visit Brazil? Yes, this is probably one of the best times to visit Iguazu Falls, and trails are likely to be open. Most of the trails are on the Argentinean side. The falls are still pretty powerful from the rains of the previous months.

Costa Verde with the beaches around Rio are perfect year round, so April is definitely a time to visit.

April is a great month to visit the colonial towns of Minas Gerais, as it is drier and the skies are clear.

It is also summer in the south, so the beaches of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are perfect. However, it is not the best time to see the canyons of Aparados da Serra.

In April the temperature around Rio are between 22-28°C. April is the wettest month for Rio with rainfall usually happening in the evening. However, it’s a good month for beach going during the day and sea sports in Rio Janeiro.

April is not the best time to go to the north and northeastern tropical beaches in the state of Bahia, Pernambuco, Fernando de Noronha and all the way to Ceara, it’s a wet month with high humidity and heavy rainfalls. It’s a wet month with high humidity and heavy rainfalls.

Rainfalls are also possible in Chapada Diamantina and Chapada dos Veadeiros, but the waterfalls are fuller which is nice to see.

The Amazon is still in a rainy season, and not the best time for wildlife spotting. Wildlife doesn’t congregate around water sources, making it tough to find them. The rainy season (December-May) is still in full swing. But, it is the time for unique experiences, available only during the rainy season. Higher water levels create ‘varzeas’ – winding waterways that can be navigated by canoe or small boat. Best month for kayaking in the Amazon, which is not possible from late April to October during the dry season when the water recedes. Jaguars climb the trees, as the water level rise.

The Pantanal is also in the midst of a rainy season. It is not the best time for jaguar spotting, which is better between June and October, the dry season. Weather and wildlife is a bit more unpredictable. The ground is drying out, wildlife spotting improves, but best to wait till May for a better experience. Still good for aquatic animals, such as anacondas, caimans, and piranhas.

It is the wet season in the state of Ceara and Maranhao. It is not the best time to be in Jericoacoara. The lagoons in the Lençóis Maranhenses national park are starting to slowly refill but are not in their full splendor since the skies are murky and gray.
