Brazil Diving Safari

Brazil has colorful, thriving reefs along the entire coast. This 9-day diving itinerary will take you on a marine discovery trip across marvelous scuba diving sites in the state of Pernambuco, in Brazil. With its amazing underwater world of sea caverns and tunnels, as well as awesome shipwrecks, Pernambuco is a diver’s heaven. You can find here almost everything, from reef fish and diverse coral species, to turtles, manta rays and whale-sharks. You will visit the wonderful marine park of Fernando de Noronha Archipelago and the coast of Recife. Dive at the most popular places in Noronha, such as Laje Dois Irmãos, Cabeça das Cordas , Pedra da Sapata and Morro Dois Irmãos. The program will be adapted depending on the diving experience and personal preferences. As you cannot take flights so fast after diving, we have designed a balanced program which includes diving, snorkelling and sightseeing. The program is an excellent choice for nature lovers. The program includes accommodation at small boutique hotels with a lot of comfort and charm. We can tailor this itinerary to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities.

  • PADI and DAN recommend a minimum pre-flight surface interval of at least 12 hours for single dives and 18 hours for repetitive dives or multiple days of diving
  • Bring your diving certificate and log book, if you have them
  • Ensure diving is included in the insurance coverage
  • Bring a dive computer and SMB
  • All dives are done with no decompression
  • Maximum dive time is 60 min depending on deco and tide, minimum interval surface time is 1 hour
  • Do not enter the water without the supervision of a professional instructor
  • Do not touch whales shark, turtles, and other animals – the acidity of our hands removes the protective mucus from their skin. Parasites can then attach them causing wounds, followed by necrosis and death
  • The place of corals and shells is underwater, they must be left there
  • Have a correct buoyancy and avoids touching the corals with the fins as this causes damage
  • No dangling gear (manometer, lamp, camera, GoPro) – everything has to be properly stored. A hanging manometer bounces from coral to coral, breaking branches throughout the dive
  • Avoid sun creams or anti-fog products for masks which are not reef-friendly
  • Follow the safety instructions of the instructors during the dives and when on board
  • Do not go on different paths other than the pre-established ones
  • Do not practice fishing

International flights are not included in the package price. We give you the freedom to book the flights yourself, use miles and choose your preferred airline, and if you are stuck we can help you find the right connections. Return flights to Brazil start from £800 per person, depending on the connections and time of the year. The starting point is Recife Airport (REC).

For families and groups (starting with 5 pax), we can book domestic flights in Brazil, during the high season, and if the trip is part of a more complex itinerary. This is to ensure a seamless travel and no complications.

This is a sample itinerary and prices are correct at the time of writing. We can tailor it to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities. More days can be added. Other hotels can be chosen, according to your liking. Best time to visit Fernando de Noronha is year round. Even during the rainy period (June to September) the rain usually does not last all day. The best season for surfers is between December and February, and for divers, it is from March to November.

Day 1 - Praia dos Carneiros

Today you will arrive in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the paradise tropical beach of Carneiros (1,5 hours). Spend the rest of the day at leisure. This stunning beach has crystalline turquoise waters, white sands and groves of swaying coconut trees. The beach’s calm, shallow water is ideal for cooling off. Go for a stroll along the seashore to the charming colonial church of St. Benedict. Sit back and admire the stunning natural scenery. When hunger strikes, visit one of the waterfront restaurants. Try moqueca, a fish or shrimp stew with coconut milk, tomatoes, peppers and spices. Overnight at Pontal dos Carneiros.

Day 2 - Porto de Galinhas

After breakfast, meet your instructor for a safety briefing and depart to dive. Today head north to Porto de Galinhas (1 hour) to discover the marine life of the Atlantic Ocean. Beginners will dive into coral reefs with a maximum depth of 15 meters and a water temperature of 28ºC. Advanced divers will dive in the Marte and Gonçalo Coelho shipwrecks, with an average depth of 36 meters and a water temperature of 28ºC. Diving in the Corveta Ipiranga V17 wreck requires a high level of experience from advanced divers. A pre-dive for candidate assessment is made the day before to check the level of experience. Day 3 - Porto de Galinhas

Today, early morning, you will discover the beautiful natural pools which form at low tide along the coast. After breakfast you will explore the turquoise waters of Carneiros. Later on, after lunch, following the tide cycles, you will be transferred to the natural pools of Porto de Galinhas for snorkelling. You can either swim to the pools from the shore, as they are not far away, or take a small wooden boat called jangada. You can swim with a myriad of colorful fish, which are trapped in the pools. It is a truly extraordinary experience. In the evening enjoy a relaxing time. Overnight at Overnight at Pousada Tabajuba.

Day 4 - Fernando de Noronha

Today transfer back to Recife. Take an 1-hour flight to Fernando de Noronha archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This Atlantic island is considered one of the best dive spots in the world, having a visibility of 50 meters. Warm waters, shallow lagoons and tidal pools, beautiful submarine landscapes and warm weather all year round create great conditions for diving. Marine life is abundance with over 230 fish species and 15 species of coral. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel. Meet your instructor to discuss the diving plan for the next days. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Enjoy a spectacular sunset at the Dog Bar. Overnigth at Pousada Morena.

Day 5 - Wrecks & Lage Dois Irmaos

Today explore the wreck Corvette V17 Iparanga. The frigate sank in 1982 after hitting an uncharted rock, now resting at 60 m of depth. You will marvel at the brilliantly-colored rock formations that have been layered with sponges, providing a dazzling scenery. Later on enjoy an exciting dive with young sharks in the nursery at Lage Dois Irmaos. Fourteen species of sharks breed here, allowing their young to swim with divers until they are old enough to swim into the open sea. Since the archipelago is located at open sea, large marine mammals such as dolphins and whales regularly pass by on their migration routes. All kinds of fish, sea turtles, moray eels, octopuses and manta rays are also often seen. Overnigth at Pousada Morena.

Day 6 - Diving Highlights of Noronha

Today you will have an open sea dive at Pedras Secas with several small caverns and coral reef formations. You will see a lot of small creatures and school of fish. The local divemaster will guide you through the best parts of the site and will always call your attention to the wonders that come into sight. The depth ranges from 12 to 20 meters and there is no strong drift, so relax and enjoy the dive. Marine life is unique and plentiful. One can spot nurse sharks and green turtles who are always around. Later on continue to Cabeça das Cordas & Pedra da Sapata. Overnigth at Colina Pousada.

Day 7 - Porto Wreck

Today dive at diving point with a great variety of marine life. Porto Wreck is considered a very famous sea life nursery in Fernando de Noronha. You will encounter vibrantly-colored fish, eels, big turtles, manta and sting rays, reed sharks, schools of barracuda, permanent colony of wild spinner dolphins, the occasional whale shark, and plenty of fish. You will have two dives. All the equipment will be provided. Spend the afternoon at leisure, taking a stroll along the beautiful beaches of this pearl of the Atlantic Ocean. Sunsets are sensational. Day 8 - Island Tour

Today is time to discover the island on land. After breakfast, take a 4×4 buggy tour around the island, stopping at several beaches, such as Sancho, Portinho, Sueste, do Leão, Cacimba do Padre and Baía dos Porcos. A picnic lunch will be packed for you and you can enjoy the natural pool, snorkel, swim and get a tan. Fernando de Noronha has volcanic cones and different rock formations. The beaches are pristine and protected, being considered some of the most beautiful in the world. Visit the Shark Museum in the north of the island and learn more about these mysterious creatures. Day 9 - Return to Recife & Fly to Rio

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport. Fly back to Recife. For more diving in Brazil, fly to Rio and discover Arraial do Cabo. Jacques Yves Cousteau was amazed by Arraial’s crystalline waters with high visibility up to 30 m. The cool southerly and warm northerly currents of the Atlantic meet there, creating an underwater paradise for marine species. You will encounter sea turtles, groupers, moray eels, queen angelfish, seahorses, lobsters, squids, dolphins, and rays. There are several underwater caves and canyons to explore.  Dive at Gruta Azul, Ilha Comprida, Ilha Dois Irmãos and Ilha dos Papagaios. You can also explore several shipwrecks: Pinguino Wreck, Carolina and Dona Paula. There are over 40 sunken vessels.
