A passport is required for air travel to Brazil. International flights are not included in our package prices, giving you the flexibility to choose your preferred airline, use miles, and select the most convenient connections. We are happy to help you find suitable flights and can adapt your itinerary around your arrival and departure times. We also arrange domestic flights within Brazil and, where appropriate, can organize charter flights for more remote destinations.
Brazil is a vast country, stretching from the Amazon in the north to the beaches of the south and the wetlands of the Pantanal in the west. With an extensive domestic flight network, choosing the right international gateway can make a significant difference to your itinerary. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the country’s main international hubs, while Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza can be particularly convenient for trips focused on northeastern Brazil.
Early booking is advisable, especially for travel during the Brazilian summer, Christmas and New Year, Carnival, and other major holiday periods.
Key International Airports in Brazil:
GRU – São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (São Paulo): Brazil’s principal international gateway and one of the best-connected airports for reaching the country. GRU has extensive connections with Europe, North America, Latin America and other destinations, as well as frequent domestic services to cities throughout Brazil. São Paulo is an excellent arrival point for itineraries combining the southeast, Pantanal, Iguaçu Falls, Bahia and other regions.
GIG – Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport (Rio de Janeiro): The main international airport serving Rio de Janeiro, with connections to Europe, North and South America. It is the natural choice for travelers beginning or ending their journey in Rio and works particularly well for itineraries combining Rio with destinations such as Paraty, Ilha Grande, Búzios and the southeast coast.
SSA – Salvador International Airport (Salvador da Bahia): A convenient gateway to Bahia and northeastern Brazil. Salvador has international connections as well as a strong domestic network, making it useful for combining the historic city with destinations such as Praia do Forte, the Chapada Diamantina and Bahia’s spectacular coastline.
REC – Recife/Guararapes International Airport (Recife): An important gateway to northeastern Brazil, particularly useful for travelers visiting Pernambuco and the surrounding coast. Recife can also be a convenient starting or ending point for itineraries incorporating Porto de Galinhas, Olinda, Fernando de Noronha and other northeastern destinations.
FOR – Fortaleza/Pinto Martins International Airport (Fortaleza): One of northeastern Brazil’s major aviation hubs, with international connections to Europe and other destinations. It is particularly convenient for exploring Ceará and the northeastern coast, including destinations such as Jericoacoara and Lençóis Maranhenses.
BSB – Brasília International Airport (Brasília): A major domestic hub with connections across Brazil and selected international destinations. While not always the most convenient international arrival point, Brasília can be useful for itineraries combining central Brazil with other regions and offers excellent onward connections.
CWB – Curitiba/Afonso Pena International Airport (Curitiba): A useful gateway for southern Brazil, with domestic connections to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and other major Brazilian cities. It can be considered for itineraries incorporating Paraná and the surrounding region.
MAO – Manaus/Eduardo Gomes International Airport (Manaus): The principal gateway to the Brazilian Amazon. Most travelers reaching Manaus connect through São Paulo, Brasília, Rio or another Brazilian hub before continuing into the Amazon.
IGU – Foz do Iguaçu International Airport (Foz do Iguaçu): The main airport for visiting the spectacular Iguaçu Falls. Domestic connections make it easy to incorporate the falls into a wider Brazilian itinerary, often between Rio de Janeiro and other destinations.

Brazilian Airlines: LATAM Airlines, Azul and GOL operate extensive domestic networks across Brazil, connecting the country’s major cities and many regional destinations. Their networks are particularly useful when combining several regions during one trip.
European Airlines: TAP Air Portugal, Air France, KLM, Iberia, British Airways and Lufthansa provide important connections between European hubs and Brazil. TAP offers particularly extensive connections through Lisbon, while Air France and KLM connect Brazil with Paris and Amsterdam. Iberia operates from Madrid to several Brazilian destinations, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with additional northeastern routes.
North American Airlines: American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta and other carriers connect Brazil with major cities across the United States and Canada, offering convenient options for travelers arriving from North America.
South American Connections: LATAM and other regional carriers provide connections between Brazil and destinations throughout South America, making Brazil easy to combine with countries such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Bolivia.
Choosing the right airport for your Brazil trip
Because Brazil is so large, we recommend looking at your complete itinerary before booking international flights. Flying into São Paulo and out of Rio, for example, can save unnecessary backtracking if your trip combines both cities. Likewise, travelers focusing on Bahia or northeastern Brazil may benefit from flying directly into Salvador, Recife or Fortaleza when suitable international connections are available.
