Kitesurfing For Beginners

This 7-day kitesurfing course for beginners is organized in the small fisherman village of Atins, which is one of the gateways to Lencois Marahenses National park, located in the north-eastern part of Brazil. Learn to kite with professional guides, using brand new equipment, in the best spot ever. Lessons are given by a team of experienced IKO-certified instructors. Located at the mouth of a river that joins the Atlantic Ocean, Atins has epic kiteboarding conditions and is ideal for beginners interested in making the first steps in this awesome sport. Lessons are scheduled at low tide, when the water is shallow and there are no waves. Atins has constant cross-shore and cross-onshore winds, endless flat warm waters, crowdless beaches and a super relaxed vibe. Ride on crystalline natural lagoons and in the open sea. Besides kitesurfing, discover a wonderful landscape of endless dunes and thousands of crystal clear rainwater lagoons. The wind season is between July and January during which the wind speed ranges from 15 to 30 knots. The length of the daily training sessions can be altered, depending on your time availability. Travel in an active way, learn new skills, disconnect and recharge in the middle of nature.

International flights are not included in the package price. We give you the freedom to book the flights yourself, use miles and choose your preferred airline, and if you are stuck we can help you find the right connections. Return flights to Brazil start from £800 per person, depending on the connections and time of the year. The starting point is Sao Luis (SLZ).

For families and groups (starting with 5 pax), we can book domestic flights in Brazil, during the high season, and if the trip is part of a more complex itinerary. This is to ensure a seamless travel and no complications.

This is a sample itinerary and prices are correct at the time of writing. We can tailor it to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities. More days can be added. Other hotels can be chosen, according to your liking. During the first lessons the student will be able to achieve the Level 1 “Discovery”.

After a full course, the student should be independent. This means that the student will master all the security matters and an overall understanding of the technique enough to get the equipment and start training independently.

You can experience constant cross onshore winds from mid-July to mid-January. Best time for kitesurfing is October to November, when the winds are raucously strong.

Day 1 - Arrival in Atins

Today you will arrive at the airport of São Luís, capital of the state of Maranhao, where you will be meat at the airport and transferred to Barreirinhas. Here you will embarked on a boat that will navigate along Preguicas river. During the ride appreciate the beautiful nature in all its splendor. Once in Atins, you will be transferred to the inn, where you will meet your guide for a safety briefing and prepare for the following days. In the evening watch a mezmerising sunset, have dinner and rest since kite lessons begin the next day. Overnight at Muita Paz.

Day 2 - First Kitesurfing Lesson

After breakfast, meet the team of instructors. Get on a boat and sail to a sand bank in search of the best wind and tide conditions. The water has a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and the spot has incredible views. Here you will start the course in a unique and exclusive place. The lesson consists of a brief theoretical part (15 min) followed by the practical part (2 hours). At this stage, kites with a special safety control set up are used. As a student, you will performs a variety of exercises, both on the beach and in the water, aiming to control the kite. After the class you will receive performance feedback and return to the village. Rest and watch the sunset. Overnight at Muita Paz.

Day 3 - Kitesurfing Lessons

After a good rest and breakfast you will meat the school staff by the beach or by the inn and navigate to the sandbanks. During this second class you will have a brief review of how to control the kite, seeking to reinforce it. Now get ready for various kite exercises in the water and on the beach. After two hours of lessons and feedback from the instructors, return to the inn where a relaxing massage is waiting for you. At sunset, take a boat to the mangroves to watch the red ibis going to sleep. This is a truly majestic scene and if lucky you can see flocks of red birds crossing the sky. Overnight at Muita Paz.

Day 4 - Kite Lessons & Park Tour

After breakfast, take the school boat to the place of your kite practice. At this point you will already have control of the kite and board. It is time to place the board on your feet and seek balance in the water. Let’s go! After this stage, you will begins to move with the kite seeking to generate power strokes and power eights. After two hours of lessons, you will receive your feedback from the instructor and then return to the inn. In the afternoon, take a tour through the wonderful landscape of the national park of Lencois Maranhenses and watch the sunset over the dunes. Visit Lagoa da Gaviao and Canto de Atins. Overnight at Lagoa do Vento.

Day 5 - Kite Lessons & Quad Tour

After breakfast, head to the sandbank for your fourth kitesurfing lesson. Today, increase the power of the kite in order to get out of the water. Standing on the board you will be able to ride your first small distances. What a wonderful sensation of freedom and excitement. Constant trade winds are a great ally for practicing an entire customized and carefully designed course. After two hours of lessons and the feedback received from the instructors, return to the inn. In the afternoon, a guide will take you on a quad ride through the national park of Lencois Marahneses to visit Lagoa da Gaivota and Lagoa da Esmeralda. Overnight at Lagoa do Vento.

Day 6 - Last Lesson

This is your last day of the kitesurfing course, where you can already start controlling the speed, finding balance, improving posture and navigating several meters. You will already be confident in your kitesurfing mastering. After two hours of lessons and the respective feedback from the instructors, embark on the boat to return to the inn for a well-deserved massage in the afternoon. On your return to the village you will also receive the IKO certificate, after completing all the lessons. At night, celebrate this great acvhievement at Pininga restaurant with a three-course fusion gourmet meal. Overnight at Ananda Atins.

Day 7 - Ilha do Kite

As you already have a sufficient level to navigate, today you will visit the lagon called Ilha do Kite. Drive through the dunes along the beach, heading west towards the national park of Lencois Maranhenses. A guide and instructor will travel with you to provide assistance during navigation on the lagoons. The full equipment will be provided. Experience the wonderful feeling of sailing in an incredibly beautiful place like no other. Lunch will be packed for the trip and you can stop to recharge the batteries at your own convenience. After two hours of kiting, return to the inn to rest. Overnight at Ananda Atins.

Day 8 - Departure

After breakfast, return to São Luís and take your onward flight. You will be transferred to the port where a private boat will bring you to Barreirinhas. Time permitting stop in Mandacaru to visit the lighthouse and in Vassouras to see the monkeys. Once in Barreirinhas, take a private transfer to Sao Luis, the capital of Maranhao. In case you will be heading to Jericoacoara, transfers will be arranged in the other direction, via Parnaiba. Now fully operational, you can discover the beaches of Piaui and Ceara, a true paradise for kitesurfers. A good idea is to stop in Jericoacoara, which also enjoys good winds.

* NOTE : This course is focused on beginners. Furthermore, advance riders can go downwind with different durations, choose to kite on the lagoons of the Lençóis Maranhenses Park, or combine a downwind with kite sessions on the lagoons. Equipment and assistance can be arranged.
