Brazil in March

January

March

May

Is March a good time to visit Brazil? Yes, March is a very good month to visit Bahian beaches, although there are chances of light rains. Chapada Diamantina and Chapada dos Veadeiros are great in March, as the waterfalls are fuller. Costa Verde with the beaches around Rio are perfect year round, so March is definitely a time to visit.

It is also summer in the south, so the beaches of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are perfect. However, it is not the best time to see the canyons of Aparados da Serra.

In March the temperature around Rio are between 23-29°C. It is still a hot and rainy month, but typically not as hot and humid as the previous months. From a weather perspective, March is one of the best months to visit Rio.

It rains a lot more in the Pernambuco and Fernando de Noronha, than in the previous months, but one can still have pretty good weather here in March.

The Amazon is in the midst of a rainy season, however the rainfall is usually happening in the evening. It’s harder to spot animals, some excursions not available. But, it is the time for unique experiences, available only during the rainy season. Higher water levels create ‘varzeas’ – winding waterways that can be navigated by canoe or small boat. Best month for kayaking in the Amazon, which is not possible from April to October during the dry season when the water recedes. Jaguars climb the trees, as the water level rise.

The Pantanal is also in the midst of a rainy season. It is not the best time for jaguar spotting, which is better between June and October, the dry season. However it can be a good time for aquatic animals, such as caimans, piranhas and anacondas.

This is probably one of the best times to visit Iguazu Falls, as the weather is starting to improve, so most trails will be open and activities available, however the falls are still super powerful from the high rainfalls which usually happen during January till March.

March might not be the best month to visit the colonial towns of Minas Gerais as it is hot and humid.

It is the wet season in the state of Ceara and Maranhao. It is not the best time to be in Jericoacoara. The lagoons in the Lençóis Maranhenses national park are only starting to slowly refill but are not in their full splendor since the skies are murky and gray.
