When to Visit

The best time to visit the Colombian Amazon Rainforest is during the dry season, which runs from July to December. This is when the river levels are lower, making it easier to explore the surrounding jungle and observe the diverse wildlife. However, the rainy season (from January to June) also offers unique opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife sightings, as the rainforest comes to life with vibrant flora and fauna.

What to Wear

During the Dry Season: Lightweight, breathable clothing for daytime excursions, with light layers for cooler mornings and evenings. Comfortable hiking shoes and a light rain jacket are recommended.

For the Rainy Season: Waterproof jackets and boots for protection against frequent rain showers. Quick-drying, breathable clothing is essential, especially when exploring the jungle on foot or by boat.

Day 1 - Fly to Leticia

Catch a flight to Leticia, the gateway to the Colombian Amazon Jungle, located in the heart of rainforest, sitting on the tri-border area shared between Colombia, Brazil and Peru. You will be met on arrivals and taken to your hotel. After lunch, take a market tour to discover the Amazonian fruits like camu camu and exotic local handicrafts. The tour will also provide insight into the livelihoods of local artisans and the culture of the region. Next, visit the botanical garden Mundo Amazónico, where an indigenous healer will introduce you to the Amazonian medicinal plants with powerful healing properties such as guayusa, copaiba, and bark. Learn about their cultural significance and usage by the indigenous people. Overnight at Decameron Decalodge Ticuna.

Day 2 - Maloca Wairuru

After breakfast, prepare for an immersive guided hike through the lush rainforest to Maloka Wairuru (3 hours). Your guide will point out the incredible biodiversity of the region, from towering trees to vibrant orchids and medicinal plants, creating a sensory-rich exploration of the jungle. At the end of the hike, you will arrive at Maloca Wairuru, an indigenous community, where a tribal elder will greet you and provide a deep insight into the spiritual significance of the Amazon rainforest. Later, enjoy a traditional dinner with fish and tropical fruits, served in authentic Amazonian settings. After the visit, continue to your hotel. Overnight at Burú Nature Hotel.

Day 3 - Loreto Mocagua

After breakfast, take a private boat ride to the charming jungle village of Mocagua, along the Amazon River (1,5 hours), where you’ll have the chance to witness the vastness of the river and its hidden tributaries, immersing yourself in the serene beauty of the waterway. Upon your arrival, the Maikuchiga Foundation, a sanctuary dedicated to the rehabilitation of rescued Churuco monkeys and the pink river dolphins. You will witness inspiring efforts to protect Amazonian biodiversity while interacting with playful primates in their natural habitat. After the visit, return to your hotel. Day 4 - Nainekü & Amacayacu

After breakfast, take a boat ride along the Amazon River towards the Nainekü Reserve (2 hours). As you cruise through the river’s winding channels, the waters reflect the lush greenery of the surrounding rainforest, creating a tranquil and immersive experience. Upon your arrival, enjoy a gourmet Amazonian lunch with tender palm heart and fresh fish. Next, visit the San Martín de Amacayacu community, gaining insight into indigenous craftsmanship such as basket weaving and pottery making. Next, explore the charming village of Puerto Nariño and its surroundings. Stroll through its peaceful streets and visit local shops selling handmade crafts. Day 5 - Lago Tarapoto & Spa

After breakfast, visit the Natutama Foundation, which engage into protecting the iconic pink dolphins. Enjoy a boat tour through the beautiful Lago Tarapoto (2 hours), a prime location for dolphin watching. As you cruise the calm, crystal-clear waters, you’ll have the chance to spot the playful dolphins, leaping and swimming in the serene surroundings of the lakes. After a day of exploration, return to your lodge for a relaxing spa session. Enjoy treatments with Amazonian herbs such as copaiba, known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, and guayusa, an energizing Amazonian plant used by indigenous tribes for centuries. Day 6 - Birdwatching & Sunset Cruise

Early in the morning, take an exhilarating birdwatching tour through the Amazon Jungle. As the sun rises, the rainforest comes alive with the sounds of tropical birds. You’ll spot vibrant toucans, colorful parrots, and other exotic species. Your guide will point out various bird species, sharing their habits, songs, and the significance of these creatures in the Amazon’s delicate balance. Then, take a boat ride back to Leticia (3 hours). At sunset time, embark on a luxury sunset dinner cruise along the Amazon River. As the boat glides through the tranquil waters, you’ll be treated to a gourmet meal featuring regional delicacies. Day 7 - Chunaki Lodge

After breakfast, take a boat ride to Chunaki Lodge (3 hours). After check-in, take a guided nature hike in the jungle. Explore the lush rainforest, while your guide will point out fascinating wildlife, such as sloths, monkeys, and various species of birds. Discover the unique Amazonian medicinal plants. Later, take a peaceful canoe trip along the river to spot river turtles and pink dolphins, while enjoying a serene view of the surrounding jungle. In the evening, engage in a cultural workshop with the Tikuna community, one of the largest indigenous groups in the Colombian Amazon. Gain a deep understanding of their spiritual beliefs and their harmony co-habitation with the forest. Enjoy traditional dances and Tikuna rituals. Enjoy a gourmet Amazonian dinner. Day 8 - Chunaki Lodge

After breakfast, take a guided rainforest walk and learn about the conservation efforts in the area. You’ll encounter a wide variety of wildlife, from howler monkeys to colorful toucan birds. In the afternoon, visit the Yagua community. You’ll participate in a ritual ceremony, traditional dances, taking a rare glimpse into their way of life. Learn about the sustainable lifestyle practices used by the tribe, such as fishing, farming, and the use of forest resources. Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening, unwinding after a day of adventure. Enjoy a gourmet Amazonian dinner and take in the sounds of the jungle. Overnight at Chunaki Lodge.

Day 9 - Departure

Enjoy a relaxed morning at the lodge then return back to Leticia (3 hours). Upon your arrival you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Bogotá, where you can spend the afternoon exploring the city or preparing for your departure home.
