Dive into chocolate therapy and bird-watching before heading to Salento to wander through colorful streets and enjoy a coffee farm tour. Hike the stunning Valle del Cocora, known for its towering wax palms, and explore Filandia’s colonial charm. Relax in the rejuvenating hot springs of Santa Rosa de Cabal, then trek through the dramatic landscapes of Los Nevados National Park. When to Visit

The Coffee Region of Colombia enjoys a tropical climate and can be visited year-round, though December to April offers the driest and most pleasant weather.

Be prepared for high-altitude conditions. Stay hydrated and take it slow to acclimate.

What to Wear

Dry Season: Light, breathable clothing for the warm climate. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Day 1 - Fly to Armenia

Begin your Colombian journey with an early flight from Bogotá to the verdant landscapes of Armenia, the capital of Quindio, located in the Andes mountains. Welcome to the Coffee Region of Colombia! After check-in, explore the vibrant life of this charming city. In the evening, visit the Quindío Botanical Garden, located in Calarca (20 min drive), a serene oasis that showcases the diverse flora of the region. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature, surrounded by exotic plants and the soft sounds of the natural world. It is a haven for bird enthusiasts and there is a large butterfly house as well. Retreat for the night at your hotel, nestled in the heart of coffee country. Overnight at Hotel Campestre La Floresta.

Day 2 - San Alberto Coffee Farm

Awake to the crisp air of Armenia and start your day with a guided tour of the renowned San Alberto coffee farm (50 min drive away) located in Buenavista. Dive into the fascinating journey of coffee from bean to cup, learning about the meticulous processes that define Colombian coffee culture. Later, embark on a city tour of Armenia, exploring its rich cultural and historical landmarks. Conclude your day with a delightful dinner at either your hotel or a local restaurant, enjoying the local cuisine. Overnight in Cordoba (20 min) in the middle of a cacao plantation at Casa Rivera del Cacao.

Day 3 - Chocolate Therapy

Around sunrise, go on a bird-watching tour to observe nearly 100 species of birds in their natural habitat. After breakfast, take part in a complete cocoa-chocolate workshop, from the evaluation and roasting of cocoa, through hulling and manual grinding, to the preparation of a 65% fondue. This educational tour includes a delicious lunch. End the day at the spa, located on a hill with beautiful views of the Quindío mountains. Immerse yourself in mountain spring water, revitalizing your body. Relax with a wellness chocolate therapy. With 15 times more antioxidants than red wine and 20 more than green tea, chocolate is a healer. In the skin, chocolate therapy hydrates, reduces spots, wrinkles and sagging, improves mood and reduces stress. Overnight in Cordoba at Casa Rivera del Cacao.

Day 4 - Salento

Set off in the morning to the picturesque town of Salento (1 hour drive away). Wander through its vibrant streets, lined with colorful artisan shops and cafes, capturing the essence of Colombian charm. There are several nice viewpoints, such as Visit Mirador en las Manos de Dios, offering beautiful vistas of the valleys. In the afternoon, take a short ride (25 min) to Finca El Ocaso coffee farm for a guided tour. Learn about coffee cultivation and processing, and enjoy a coffee tasting session. In the evening, dine at a local restaurant to savor traditional dishes and visit Mirador Alto de la Cruz for a beautiful evening view of the valleys. Overnight at Kawa Mountain Retreat.

Day 5 - Valle del Cocora

After a hearty breakfast, you will be transferred to the breathtaking Cocora Valley (25 min drive away), known for its towering wax palm trees – the tallest palms in the world and a national symbol of Colombia. Take a guided hike along the scenic path through the valley to Acaime Reserve and up to Finca La Montaña (5-6 hours). Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy along the trail. Hummingbirds will accompany you on this hike. From the top, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Valle del Cocora and the surrounding mountains. Descend will take you through the valle y wax palm trees, the most scenic part of the hike. Back in Salento, relax with a cup of coffee and a good dinner. Overnight at Kawa Mountain Retreat.

Day 6 - Filandia & Santa Rosa

After breakfast, transfer to Filandia (35 min), charming town with beautiful colonial architecture and stunning viewpoints. Stroll through the central Plaza de Bolívar, marvel at the charming, brightly-painted houses, and take in the panoramic views from the Mirador del Quindío. In the afternoon, transfer to Santa Rosa de Cabal (1 hour drive) and unwind in the soothing waters of its hot springs, nestled in lush scenery, providing a perfect natural retreat. Let the warm, mineral-rich waters rejuvenate you, while enjoying views of cascading waterfalls. Enjoy a peaceful dinner at a local restaurant, reflecting on the day’s enriching experiences. Overnight at Hacienda Boutique Santa Rosanna.

Day 7 - Los Nevados National Park

Start your day early with a drive to Los Nevados National Natural Park (2.5 hours), a stunning park with dramatic landscapes, high-altitude páramos, and snow-capped peaks. With a packed picnic lunch, hike along the El Reloj trek, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and páramos. The trail is moderate and takes about 2-3 hours round trip. Along the way, marvel at the unique high-altitude flora and fauna, including frailejón plants, and keep an eye out for wildlife such as Andean condors and deer. Enjoy panoramic views of the park’s snow-capped peaks, including the Nevado del Ruiz, and the beautiful high-altitude lakes. After the trek, return to Santa Rosa (2,5 hours). Overnight at Hacienda Boutique Santa Rosanna.

Day 8 - Departure

Today say goodbye to the Coffee Region and catch your short domestic flight back to Bogotá either from Pereira (PEI) or from Armenia (AXM). These airports are within 50 min from each other. Alternatively, you can choose to stay a few more days and explore the region in-depth, visiting other colonial towns and beautiful parks.
