Day 1 - Fly to Bahía Solano

Today catch a morning flight from Bogota to Bahía Solano Airport, located on the Pacific coast of Colombia. This remote yet captivating region is part of the Chocó department, known for its lush rainforests, diverse wildlife, and vibrant culture. You will be met on arrivals and transfer to your lodge (30 min). You will be welcomed with a fresh drink. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch with ocean views at the open-air restaurant. Then, take a guided nature walk through nearby jungle trails (1,5 hours), where your guide will share insights about the region’s rich biodiversity and ecosystem. The walk gives you the opportunity to spot various bird species, monkeys, and perhaps even sloths. Return to the lodge to freshen up and unwind on the private beach. In the evening, indulge in a gourmet dinner. Overnight at El Almejal Ecolodge.

Day 2 - Whales & Caves

After breakfast, embark on a 3-hour whale-watching tour. From July to October, the waters off the coast are teeming with humpback whales, which migrate to the region to give birth and mate. Your guide will share fascinating facts about humpback whale behavior, migration patterns, and conservation efforts. The journey also offers the chance to spot other marine life, such as dolphins, sea turtles, and various bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch, then, set out on a guided hike to the Cuevas de los Tigres caves (2,5 hours). Trek through lush rainforest trails, where you can marvel at the unique geological formations and diverse plant and animal life. Return to the lodge for dinner and relax after your adventure. Overnight at El Almejal Ecolodge.

Day 3 - Utría National Park

After breakfast take a 30-min boat ride to Utría National Park, a hidden gem of Colombia’s Pacific coast which is a biodiversity hotspot with a rich flora and fauna. Here, take a guided hike through the lush rainforest trails (2 hours). Discover towering trees, vibrant orchids, and diverse wildlife, with your guide sharing insights into the ecosystem. After the hike, take a kayaking trip in Utría’s tranquil bay. Paddle through serene waters surrounded by mangroves and coastal rainforest, observing marine and bird life (1,5 hours). For lunch enjoy a picnic overlooking the stunning scenery. After lunch, engage with locals, learning about their traditions, crafts, and connection to the natural world. In the afternoon, return by boat to the lodge. Overnight at El Almejal Ecolodge.

Day 4 - Waterfalls & Turtles

After breakfast, embark on a guided hike to Cascada El Tigre, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by dense jungle (3 hours). Along the way, learn about the area’s unique flora and fauna from your local guide. Upon arrival, take a refreshing dip in the clear waters. Return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, visit a a local turtle sanctuary to learn about the vital efforts to protect endangered sea turtles. Depending on the season, participate in activities such as releasing baby turtles into the ocean or assisting in beach monitoring (2,5 hours). This is such a touching and memorable experience. Hatchlings are carefully raised in the sanctuary until they are strong enough to be released, often in the early evening to avoid predators. Overnight at El Almejal Ecolodge.

Day 5 - Transfer to Nuquí

After breakfast, board a private boat for a scenic ride to Nuquí, a remote coastal town located in the Chocó department of Colombia (2,5 hours). Enjoy stunning views of pristine beaches and dense rainforests. Your lodge is nestled between jungle and ocean, providing a peaceful retreat where you can relax and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and ocean waves. After a delicious lunch at the lodge, it’s time to explore the stunning Playa Guachalito, a beautiful stretch of golden sand that is perfect for unwinding. Spend the afternoon swimming, beachcombing, or simply relaxing in this serene environment. Overnight at La Kuka Lodge.

Day 6 - Whales & Playa Guachalito

After breakfast go on another whale watching tour – you can never get enough of them! Then, enjoy a picnic lunch on Playa Guachalito. In the afternoon enjoy snorkeling and exploring the vibrant marine life. The crystal-clear waters offer excellent visibility to observe colorful fish, sea turtles, and an array of other marine species in their natural habitat, providing a peaceful and immersive underwater experience. After a day of exploration, relax and savor a delectable dinner featuring regional seafood and locally sourced ingredients, prepared to highlight the flavors of the Chocó region. Overnight at La Kuka Lodge.

Day 7 - Hot Springs & Waterfalls

After breakfast, set out on a guided hike to the Termales de Jurubira hot springs through lush rainforest trails (2 hours). Your guide will highlight unique flora and fauna along the way, providing an immersive introduction to the area’s biodiversity. Once arrived at the hot springs, relax in the warm, therapeutic waters surrounded by nature. This tranquil setting offers a perfect opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate. Continue on a short hike to a hidden jungle waterfall, Cascada del Amor (30 min). Swim in the clear, cool waters surrounded by a serene atmosphere. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the waterfall. When ready, return to the lodge. Overnight at La Kuka Lodge.

Day 8 - Mangroves

After breakfast, embark on a guided kayaking adventure through Nuquí’s mangrove forests. Paddle through calm waterways surrounded by dense mangroves, observing unique wildlife such as herons, egrets, and river turtles (2 hours). To reach our more secluded channels, transfer to a canoe. Guided by local experts, discover hidden waterways and learn about the ecological importance of mangroves (1,5 hours). Enjoy a riverside lunch featuring freshly caught fish and tropical fruits. Then, relax at the lodge or take a dip in the ocean. Later, take a sunset walk along Playa Guachalito, guided by a local naturalist who will share insights into the area’s ecosystems as the day transitions to evening. Wrap up the day with a delightful dinner at the lodge. Overnight at La Kuka Lodge.

Day 9 - Embera Indigenous People

After breakfast, visit Emberá Indigenous Community, one of the most prominent indigenous groups in the Chocó region. Learn about their traditions, craftsmanship, and the deep connection they have with the rainforest. Participate in traditional activities such as basket weaving, a skill passed down through generations. Enjoy the rhythmic dance and music, inviting you to join in. Share a communal lunch with the Emberá community, featuring cassava, plantains, and fresh fish. Spend your afternoon exploring the nearby jungle trails with a local guide. Learn about medicinal plants and spot diverse wildlife as you trek through the rainforest (2 hours). Return to the lodge to relax before dinner, then embark on a guided jungle night walk, discovering nocturnal creatures and listening to the sounds of the rainforest (1,5 hours). Day 10 - Departure

After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred back to the airport for your flight back to Bogotá where you can spend the afternoon exploring the city or preparing for your departure home. Also, you can continue discovering other parts of Colombia, by exploring other regions, such as the spectacular Caribbean Coast with its islands and national parks, the fascinating Coffee Region or the remote Amazon Rainforest in Leticia.
