When is the best time to visit Costa Rica? However, the rainfall varies from one month to the next. Sunny mornings are the normal weather in the area.
North Pacific Coast: It has a longer dry season and is known for being the driest region in the country. The forest of this area is commonly know as the dry tropical forest and its mostly located in the Guanacaste Province. The rainy season is less intense compared to the rest of the Pacific. The temperature is always warm, and can varies from 22°C at night to 33 – 35°C during the day. During the months of August to November this part of the country will receive enough rain during the afternoon. Sunny warm mornings are the rule in this region all year long.
Central Pacific Coast: The climate of the Central Pacific of Costa Rica is typically tropical, with two well-defined seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. From December to April the weather is sunny and hot, with very little rain. Daytime temperatures range between 27°C and 34°C, and nights are slightly cooler, with temperatures around 22°C to 25°C. Humidity is moderate, and skies are usually clear, making this season ideal for outdoor activities and beach relaxation. Starting from May until November rains are frequent, especially in the afternoon and at night. September and October are usually the months with the highest rainfall. South Pacific Coast: Costa Rica’s South Pacific climate is humid and tropical, characterized by high humidity and a significant amount of rainfall throughout the year. The South Pacific includes the Osa Peninsula, considered one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet due to its humid climate and vast expanse of rainforest. Coastal areas, such as Golfito and Dominical, tend to be warmer and more humid, while higher altitude areas, such as Chirripó National Park, are cooler and can have varied microclimates. The dry and rainy seasons behave the same in the south than in the central coast. Here during the dry season, rainfall decreases, but humidity remains high. Daytime temperatures are usually between 25°C and 33°C, with nights a little cooler, around 22°C to 25°C. Although it is the “dry” season, occasional rainfall may occur, especially in mountainous areas. During the rainy season the South Pacific experiences frequent, heavy rain, especially in September and October, which are the wettest months. Temperatures vary between 24°C and 30°C, with a higher thermal sensation due to humidity. Rain usually falls in the afternoon and evening, with partly sunny mornings. In some areas, precipitation is so constant that there is no significant “break” from the rains.
Northern Regions (La Fortuna, Boca Tapada, Monteverde): The weather of northern regions of Costa Rica is humid and tropical, with warm temperatures all year round and high humidity.
