Embark on a delightful 11-day trip, starting in Paris, through the the heart of France’s Loire Valley, where history, romance, and natural beauty converge to create an unforgettable experience. This region is full of stunning châteaux, picturesque towns, wineries and mind-blowing gardens. First, visit Orleans, a city steeped in history and charm. Explore the medieval streets and savor the ambiance before moving on to the first chateau. Next, venture to the royal city of Blois. In Amboise visit the final residence of the brilliant Leonardo da Vinci. Continue to the area of Tours, with unique medieval castles and rose gardens. In Saumur explore its picturesque streets and the magnificent views over Loire river from the castle. Visit several wineries and taste the local gastronomic delights. Visit the charming Angers and the vibrant city of Nantes, a hub of culture and innovation. Don’t miss out on the cute village of Kerhinet and a boat trip on the marshes of Brière Park. The trip can be done the other way around, shortened or extended, according to your preference. This is a great trip for all ages, from family trips with children, to romantic escapes and retirement adventures.

This is a sample itinerary and prices are correct at the time of writing. We can tailor it to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities. More days can be added. 

The best time to visit the Valley of Loire is from mid April to late September, when the weather is good and there are less chances of rain. 

Day 1 - Orleans

Start your journey from Paris. The first stop will be at Château de Chamerolles, a picturesque Renaissance castle located in the middle of the forest. Explore the beautiful rooms and discover the history of this elegant residence. There is a delightful perfume museum, which offers a fragrant journey through the world of scents. Take a leisurely stroll through the well-maintained gardens surrounding the chateau. Next, continue to the charming city of Orleans. Visit the gotic cathedral of Sainte-Croix and learn about the history of the legendary Joan of Arc. Overnight at Hôtel de l’Abbaye Beaugency.

Day 2 - Blois

Today visit some of the most iconic châteaux  in the Loire Valley – Chambord and Château Royal de Blois. In Chambord, explore the double-helix staircase, rumored to be designed by Leonardo da Vinci, and climb to the rooftop for panoramic views of the forest. Wander through the opulent rooms and learn about the rich history. After lunch, visit the charming town of Blois and its royal castle. Explore the château, representing various periods of French history, revealing about the intrigues and events that unfolded within these walls. Later, explore Blois on a relaxed pace and stroll along the banks of Loire River. Overnight at Fleur de Loire Spa Hotel.

Day 3 - Amboise

Today visit the splendid Château Royal d’Amboise with beautiful views of the river and a cute garden. The on-site Saint Hubert Chapel houses the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci. After lunch, visit Clos Lucé, the final residence of the genius Leonardo da Vinci. Explore the charming home where da Vinci lived, worked, and created some of his most brilliant inventions. The gardens are also a delightful place to explore, featuring replicas of his inventions. Next, continue to the beautiful gardens and vineyards of Château de Valmer. Stroll through the gardens, filled with vibrant flowers and serene fountains. The final stop will be Jardin Prieuré de Vauboin, a hidden gem on the Loire Valley. Take a walk through this peaceful garden, admiring the lush greenery and fragrant blooms. Overnight at Le Clos d’Amboise.

Day 4 - Intrigues, Wine & Roses

Start the morning at Chenonceaux, an elegant château-bridge located on the Cher River. Explore the opulent interiors, lovely kitchen, stunning gardens, and learn about the intriguing history. After lunch, visit the vineyards of Château de Nitray, a hidden gem of the Loire Valley. Take a guided tour to learn about the wine-making process and enjoy a wine tasting session. Continue to the idyllic village of roses, Chedigny. Boasting streets lined with over 800 rose bushes, the village has a picturesque and fragrant atmosphere. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the village, taking in the colorful blooms and charming architecture. Overnight at Le Clos d’Amboise.

Day 5 - Loches & Villardy

In the morning visit the historic town of Loches with its royal castle. Explore this impressive medieval citadel, which has a rich history and offers panoramic views of the town. After lunch, visit Château de Villandry (30 min drive). Spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful Renaissance gardens, each with its unique design. The gardens include ornamental parterres, a water garden with fountains, a sun garden, and a functional vegetable garden. The vegetables are grown in geometric patterns, making it a prime example of the French formal garden style. Take a break at the on-site café to relax with some tea or coffee and enjoy the view of the gardens. Overnight at Château de Rochecotte.

Day 6 - Hidden Gems

Start your day with a visit to the Château de Langeais. Learn the story about the marriage of Anne of Brittany. After lunch, visit the romantic Château d’Azay-le-Rideau, reflecting in the water, on an island on the Indre River (30-min drive). Explore the beautifully furnished rooms and stroll through the charming gardens surrounding the château. The elegant interiors offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the bygone era. Next, visit the fairy-tale-like castle of Château d’Ussé (20-min drive). Discover the elegant rooms and halls displaying examples of fashion from the past centuries. This castle is usually less crowded than the other ones on Loire Valley, but not less interesting. Overnight at Château de Rochecotte.

Day 7 - Gardens & Abbey

Today visit Château de Gizeux (20 min). Take a tour to discover the castle’s elegant rooms, the grand salon and chapel. Enjoy a walk in the peaceful gardens. Next, visit the stunning Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud (40 min) which houses the tombs of the Plantagenet kings, including Richard the Lionheart. Explore the monastery, learning about the history and the lives of the nuns who lived there. Take a walk in the peaceful gardens of the abbey. After lunch, continue to the Château du Rivau (30 min). Stroll through the enchanting gardens, including the rose garden, herb garden, and kitchen garden, each with its unique beauty. Enjoy a delightful dinner at a local restaurant in the Chinon area, savoring some regional cuisine. Overnight at Château de Rochecotte.

Day 8 - Saumur & Roses

Start your day in the charming town of Saumur and visit the castle which overlooks the Loire River. Enjoy panoramic views from the castle’s terrace. After lunch, drive to Château de Montreuil-Bellay (30 min). Explore the castle’s various rooms, including the keep, great hall, and chapel. The château is surrounded by a lovely park and vineyards. Next, visit La Roseraie de Doué-la-Fontaine (20 min). This enchanting rose garden is one of the largest in Europe and features thousands of rose varieties. Stroll through the garden’s diverse sections, each showcasing roses in various colors and styles, then explore the troglodyte cave dwellings within the garden. Overnight at La Seignère.

Day 9 - Angers & Nantes

Start your day in Angers. Visit the impressive Château d’Angers, that houses the Apocalypse Tapestry. This 14th-century masterpiece is a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. Next, stroll through the charming old town of La Doutre with medieval houses. Visit Place Sainte-Croix, a picturesque square with cafes. After lunch, drive to Nantes (1 hour). Start your visit at Château des Ducs de Bretagne, a beautiful castle that offers insights into the regions’ history. Then, visit the giant mechanical animals located on the central island – a whimsical experience. Next, explore the lively old town of Quartier Bouffay, with its narrow streets and restaurants. It’s an excellent place for a leisurely evening stroll. Overnight at Voltaire Opera.

Angers

Day 10 - Marshes & Cute Cottages

Today travel to the heart of the Brière Regional Natural Park and explore the vast wetlands with a unique flora and fauna. Take a guided boat tour through the marshes to observe various birds, fish, and plants.  Set up your binoculars and enjoy birdwatching, while taking in the tranquility of the marshes. For lunch head to the charming village of Kerhinet, a well-preserved traditional Brière village with thatched cottages. Explore the village, wandering its narrow streets and discovering the artisan workshops with basketry, pottery, and other crafts. Overnight at Hôtel La Palmeraie.

Day 11 - Pornic & Nantes

Before returning to the Airport of Nantes (NTE), visit Pornic, a charming coastal town with a picturesque harbor, a historic old town, and beautiful beaches. Explore the old town with narrow cobblestone streets and traditional Breton houses. Grab a coffee with a croissant at one of the local cafes. Visit the 13-century castle of Château de Pornic, located right on the waterfront. Enjoy a delicious seafood platter or mussels lunch in the harbor. After lunch, head to the beach to relax and soak up the sun. If you’re feeling active, take a scenic coastal walk along the Sentier des Douaniers. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the rugged coastline. Depending on your schedule, head to Nantes Airport.
