Stay at a historic luxury hotel and in a proper castle, and indulge yourself in a spa treatment, reflect upon the paintings of famous artists and learn about the school of impressionists in Barbizon and Thomery. International flights are not included in the package price. We give you the freedom to book the flights yourself, use miles and choose your preferred airline, and if you are stuck we can help you find the right connections. The starting point is Paris, which has good connections to the major European and international cities. 

Alternatively, the closest train station is Avon, which is 40 min away by train from Gare de Lyon in Paris.

This is a sample itinerary and prices are correct at the time of writing. We can tailor it to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities. More days can be added. 

You can visit year round, however, early / mid-spring to mid-autumn would be ideal to fully enjoy the forest and the sites.

The candlelight at  Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte dinner is available during the summer months, on specific days of the week.

The balloon ride is possible from April to October.

Day 1 - Château de Fontainebleau

Today you will be picked up in Paris and taken away to the French countryside (1 hour). Immerse yourself in the rich history of the Fontainebleau Castle, a former hunting lodge of the French royalty, including Louis XIV, Napoleon and Marie Antoinette. Take a guided tour of the magnificent château and its grounds. Sit down for a picnic lunch in the peaceful surroundings of the castle gardens. Before sunset, it’s time for the balloon ride. You’ll meet the crew for a briefing before taking off. As you soar above the treetops, enjoy breathtaking views of the château and its vast gardens, as well as the beautiful forest. Celebrate your successful flight with a glass of champagne. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Overnight at L’Aigle Noir.

Day 2 - Barbizon & Fontainebleau Forest

After breakfast, take a delightful tour to Barbizon, the painter’s village. Stroll through the picturesque streets and learn about its artistic history. Many landscape painters lived in Barbizon and a prominent art movement was born here in the 19th century. Next, set off on a guided hike through the breathtaking forest trails. Enjoy the stunning scenery and learn the fascinating history of the forest. Stop for a picnic lunch in a scenic spot, relax from the walk and enjoy the tranquility of the forest. After the hike, visit the house of the renowned  painter Rosa Bonheur in Thomery. Learn about the legacy of the artist on a guided tour. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful visit. Overnight at L’Aigle Noir.

Fontainebleau Forest

Day 3 - Samois & Vaux-le-Vicomte

After breakfast, visit the quaint village of Samois-sur-Seine with its beautiful riverside setting. The village is known for its connection to the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Stroll through the village and visit some of the places associated with Reinhardt, including his former home and the museum dedicated to his life and music. Next, head to the magnificent Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, located a short drive away. This stunning 17th century château is one of the finest examples of French Baroque architecture. Take a guided tour and marvel at the exquisite interiors, including the grand ballroom. In the evening enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner. Overnight at Château de Bourron.

Day 4 - Moret-sur-Loing & Provins

Today visit the medieval towns of Moret-sur-Loing and Provins. Moret is known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and association with the painter Alfred Sisley, who lived here. Take a guided walking tour, exploring its winding streets, medieval gates, and picturesque bridges. Visit the church of Notre-Dame, the old town hall, and other notable landmarks. Next, head to Provins and take a guided tour of the town. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Provins was once a thriving trade center and today is one of the best preserved medieval towns in France.  Enjoy a meal at one of the excellent local restaurants. Finally, make your way back to Paris, feeling enriched and invigorated after 4 wonderful days spent in charming towns.
