Flights

International flights and domestic train tickets are not included in the package price. We give you the freedom to book the flights and train rides yourself, use miles and choose your preferred airline, and if you are stuck we can help you find the right connections. The starting point can be Toulouse (airport or train station) or Clermont-Ferrand train station. This trip can be done in either direction from these cities.

The best time to visit the region of Auverge and Occitanie is from April to June or from September to November, when the weather is mild and there are fewer crowds. During these seasons, temperatures are not high and crowds are not around. July and August can be quite hot and also crowded.

Day 1 - Volvic & Panoramic Views

Today you will arrive by train in Clermont-Ferrand, the vibrant capital of the Auvergne. Pick up your car and drive to the Vulcan de Lemptegy, an open-air volcanic park where you can explore the inside of an extinct volcano. This unique experience provides insight into the volcanic history of the Massif Central, offering guided tours, 3D films, and interactive displays. Then, continue to Volvic, famous for its mineral water, home to an ancient water spring and charming volcanic landscapes. End the day with a visit to the viewpoint Panorama du Méandre de Queuille. The natural loop of the Sioule River creates a breathtaking vista, offering stunning views of the surrounding valleys. Overnight at Hôtel Spa Thermalia.

Day 2 - Puy de Dome

After breakfast, visit Puy de Dôme, one of the most iconic volcanic peaks in France. You can hike to the top (around 1.5 to 2 hours via the Chemin des Muletiers trail) or take the panoramic train to the summit, which takes you up in about 15 minutes. From the top, enjoy 360-degree vistas over the Auvergne volcanoes which are part of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring over 80 dormant volcanoes. The view is especially spectacular on a clear day, stretching across the Massif Central and as far as the Alps. It’s a perfect destination for nature lovers and a great place to learn about geology. Day 3 - Puy de Sancy & Mont Dore

Today visit Puy de Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central, which offers beautiful alpine landscapes and a variety of hiking trails suitable for all levels. Choose the one right one for you. Its glacial valleys and striking peaks make it a prime spot for outdoor enthusiasts. After a day of hiking, relax at the Mont-Dore thermal baths, renowned for their healing properties. These baths date back to Roman times and are nestled in a charming Belle Époque town, making them perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. Spend the evening at leisure at the spa. Day 4 - Lakes & Spa

After breakfast, visit Lac Chambon, a tranquil volcanic lake, perfect for a peaceful morning in the bask of nature, with stunning reflections of the nearby mountains. Then head to La Bourboule, a picturesque spa town known for its Belle Époque architecture and thermal springs. Wander through its historic streets or visit the Parc Fenestre, a beautiful park with gardens and scenic viewpoints. Enjoy a day at the spa. For the evening, visit Lac Pavin, a crater lake located in the heart of Auvergne, one of the deepest and most picturesque lakes in France. Day 5 - Castle of Val & Puy Mary

Today visit Castle of Val, one of the most well-preserved medieval castles in the region, sitting dramatically on the edge of a lake. The castle offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and a glimpse into the history of Auvergne. Then, continue to Puy Mary, a volcanic peak that’s part of the Cantal Mountains. It is a great place for hiking and outdoor enthusiasts. The summit offers panoramic views over the Volcanoes Regional Park, and the scenic drive to Pas de Peyrol is unforgettable. Day 6 - Canyon de Bozouls & Tarn Gorge

Today visit Canyon de Bozouls, a horseshoe-shaped geological marvel, with steep cliffs carved by the Dourdou River. The village of Bozouls perches dramatically on the edge, offering a fantastic place to explore both nature and history. Then, continue to Gorges du Tarn, a spectacular river gorge that cuts through Lozère and Aveyron. Enjoy the dramatic cliffs and stunning landscapes. Activities such as kayaking, hiking, and canyoning are popular here, and it’s a great place to witness the power of natural erosion. Day 7 - Marvels of Herault

Today continue to Gorges de l’Hérault. The deep canyons and clear waters offer beautiful spots for swimming and kayaking. Continue to Cascade de la Vis, a breathtaking waterfall located in a secluded area of the Cévennes. Hike along the green and lush nature. Then, visit Cirque de Navacelles, a massive natural amphitheater formed by the collapse of limestone cliffs. The dramatic views and surreal landscape make it one of the highlights of southern France. Finish the day in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful villages in France, nestled in the Gellone Valley. Its winding streets, ancient abbey, and stunning scenery have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It’s a must-visit for history lovers and those seeking a peaceful, scenic village to explore. Overnight at Château de Valloubière.

Day 8 - Massif du Sidobre

Today head to Massif du Sidobre, famous for its unusual granite rock formations, located in the Tarn region. The granite boulders scattered across the landscape create an almost otherworldly appearance, and it’s a fantastic place for hiking and exploring unique geological phenomena. Begin at the Pierre de la Fréche and Pierre de l’Observatoire, two iconic rock formations that showcase the unique geology of the area. Take your time to walk around, admire the giant boulders. Next, head to the Chaos de la Lapeze, a fascinating site where large granite blocks have tumbled down in a chaotic arrangement. Don’t miss the Rocher Tremblant and Peyro Clabado, an enormous balancing rock. Overnight at Les Jardins de Mazamet.

Day 9 - Depart to Toulouse

End your journey by traveling to Toulouse, known as the “Pink City” for its terracotta architecture. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to explore Toulouse’s vibrant cultural scene, including the Capitole de Toulouse, Basilica of Saint-Sernin, and the Cité de l’Espace. Then, drop the car off at the Toulouse Airport. If you want to discover the Mediterranean Coast of France, we propose to discover the route leading from Toulouse to Marseille. Make your way to Perpignan and discover the beautiful places all along the coast, all the way till Marseille, or even further, till Nice. Both can be done the other way around and adjusted according to your available time.
