For an exceptional experience in Hokkaido, including its main spots like Sapporo, Hakodate, Furano, and Niseko, the best times to visit are during summer (June to August) and winter (December to February).
Summer (June to August): Summer in Hokkaido offers mild and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as exploring the flower fields in Furano, enjoying the vibrant festivals in Sapporo, and hiking in the picturesque landscapes of Niseko. This season is also perfect for experiencing Hakodate’s stunning views from Mount Hakodate and enjoying its fresh seafood.
Winter (December to February): Winter is the prime time for skiing and snowboarding in Niseko, renowned for its world-class powder snow. The snow-covered landscapes create a winter wonderland perfect for enjoying the hot springs in Hakodate and the festive atmosphere in Sapporo, known for its famous Snow Festival. Furano’s ski resorts also offer excellent winter sports opportunities.
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November): While not as optimal for skiing or flower viewing, these seasons still offer beautiful landscapes and fewer crowds. Spring showcases cherry blossoms and early blooms, while autumn presents vibrant fall foliage, particularly in areas like Shikotsu-Toya National Park.
