The Active kenya Tour is a 10-day private guided itinerary exceptionally designed for adventure seekers. Fancy something a bit more than just wildlife game drives in Kenya? This  fun-packed itinerary includes ziplining through Kereita Forest, hike to the top of Mount Longonot’s volcanic crater, mountain bike through the canyons of Hell’s Gate National Park, boat ride at Crescent Island in Naivasha, waterfall trekking in Aberdare, whitewater rafting and much more. The itinerary is an excellent choice for family travelling with children, a group of friends or couples who like active trips, as well as for senior travellers. The program includes accommodation at small boutique lodges with a lot of comfort and charm. You can add a few more days on the coast and practice kitesurfing or diving.

International flights are not included in the package price. We give you the freedom to use miles and choose your preferred airline, and if you are stuck we can help you find the right connections to fit well with the start and finish of your trip. Return flights to Kenya start from £700 per person, depending on the connections and time of the year. 

We can arrange domestic flights internally, shall you choose to move around by air within Kenya.

This is a sample itinerary and prices are correct at the time of writing. We can tailor the itinerary to suit your plans by changing the length of the trip or the order of activities. Day 1 - Arrive in Nairobi

Today you will arrive at NBO Airport. You will be met and transferred to the hotel. Nairobi is the largest city between Cairo and Johannesburg. Being located just south of the equator, it enjoys a spring like climate. Although Nairobi can be quite hectic, there are charming hidden places, surrounded by tall lush trees and blooming exotic flowers. Spring is really colourful in Nairobi with all the purple jacaranda trees in bloom. What a sight! Dining and shopping are very good here. Today enjoy a relaxing time at the lodge or head out to one of the good local restaurant for a dining experience. Overnight at Tamarind Tree.

Day 2 - Kereita Forest

After breakfast depart Nairobi to Kereita Forest, around 1,5h from the outskirts of Nairobi. Stop over at the Great Rift Valley escarpment for the spectaculars view of the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Continue to Kereita, where you will enjoy the thrill of a ziplining adventure through the forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch before going mountain biking through the forest. In the late afternoon, drive around 2,5h to the southern shores of lake Naivash, Kenya’s second largest fresh water lake and it plays host to a massive number of birds including kingfishers, herons, pelicans, fish eagles among many others. Enjoy beautiful sundowners over the lake while listening to the sounds of nature. It is magnetic. Overnight at Sawela Lodge.

Day 3 - Naivasha

After breakfast, enjoy a boat ride of about 1h on the lake and a game walk on Crescent Island. Cruise through pods of hippos and listen to the shrill cry of the fish eagle. The boat ride provides an excellent opportunity to watch the birds up close in a stunning and tranquil environment. Crescent Island is a private wildlife sanctuary on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha. Surrounded by water on three sides, the island is actually a peninsula that is accessible by boat and road. There are more animals here per acre than any other wildlife area in Kenya. The terrain is flat, making it easy to walk. This is a heaven of game and birds. Overnight at Sawela Lodge.

Day 4 - Longonot & Hell's Gate

After breakfast, head out to Mount Longonot volcano. Hike through the forest to the crater rim, enjoying the views. After lunch, head to Hell’s Gate National Park. Spectacular scenery including towering cliffs, gorges, rock towers, extinct volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric parks in Africa. You’re very likely to see game here. Walk in the Hell’s Gate Gorge, through narrow twisting canyons that suddenly open up into wider spaces with beautiful rock formations. After a full hike and bike day, head to the lodge for  dinner. Overnight Sawela Lodge.

Day 5 - Waterfalls of Aberdare

After breakfast, check out with picnic lunch box and drive towards Aberdare through Naivasha – Matubio west gate. Aberdare has dense forest which is hiding unique wildlife. Upon arrival an armed warden will be there waiting to escort you. The hiking might take up to 4 hrs towards the waterfalls. Along the way, you might come across elephants since they are in plenty there. You will also come across friendly waterbucks, monkeys, antelopes among other smaller harmless animals. Time permitting you will visit Chania Waterfall, Magury Falls, Gura Falls and Queens’ Caves. Overnight at The Ark.

Day 6 - Rhinos in Ol Pejeta

After breakfast, drive towards Nanyuki, arriving on time for lunch. Arrive on time for lunch. Spend the afternoon on game drives. The Conservancy has magnificent views across the rolling hills all the way to the peaks of Mount Kenya. At Ol Pejeta enjoy game drives in search of lion, buffalo, elephant, white rhino and black rhino, and much more. You will also visit the endangered species enclosure, where you will meet the last two remaining Northern white rhino in the world. Learn from the rangers about the remarkable work being done to save the species from extinction as well as protecting the other species here. Overnight at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.

Day 7 - Cycling in Ol Pejeta

After breakfast, you will go out in the conservancy for a full day of cycling safari, returning in the evening. The cycling route is from Nanyuki to Mpala Research Center and back, a distance of 42km (26 miles). Bikes, helmets and water are provided. There is a whole new dynamics to approaching the animals on the bicycle. An experienced guide will accompany the trip. A variety of herbivores are found within the reserve and the big cats may also be seen. The conservancy has a strong commitment to endangered species and boasts of the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. There is a lunch stopover at the Big Rock followed by a session of non-technical rock climbing. Overnight Serena Sweetwaters.

Day 8 - Rafting on Sagana River

After breakfast, drive south of Ol Pejeta towards Sagana river, arriving on time for lunch. In the afternoon, prepare for an adrenaline rush as you will set out for four hours white-water rafting on river Tana. This is a perfect place for the adventurous who enjoy active holidays, involving rafting. River Tana has 3- 5 rapids depending with seasons. You can kayak or plunge in from a height of 40 ft, falling into the wild waters of Sagana river. An experienced team will brief you and will guide the trip, making sure a safe experience is taking place. Later in the evening, return for dinner and overnight at Sagana Gateaway Resort.

Day 9 - Bungee Jumping & Abseiling

After breakfast, prepare for another full day of adventure, starting with bungee jumping towards the torrential Rapids Camp. Your view below is that of Tana river and the farm lands on its banks. Observing the highest standards of safety your upper body is harnessed and an elastic chord is tied around your feet. Break for lunch. In the afternoon you will experience the most spectacular zip-lining in Africa, which cuts across the magnificent rapids of the waterfall. The Zipline is 250 m long and has 110 m on top of the river which make it unique in Kenya. Later in the evening return for dinner and overnight at Sagana Gateaway Resort.

Day 10 - Return to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Nairobi and drop off J.K.I.A to connect to your next international flight. Depending on your further travel plans, a few stops can be mode on the way to the airport, to enjoy the views or learn about tea & coffee. Although the city can be quite hectic, there are charming hidden places, surrounded by tall lush trees and blooming exotic flowers. Spring is really colourful in Nairobi with all the purple jacaranda trees in bloom. What a sight! Dining and shopping are very good here. Today enjoy a relaxing time at the lodge or head out to one of the good local restaurant for a dining experience.
