Great Migration in Masai Mara

The Grate Migration Trip will take you on  a private guided tour to Masai Mara to experience the Great Migration in 5 days. From July to October in Masai Mara one can witness one of the most incredible natural events on the planet –  the Great Migration, the world’s largest migration of wildlife. Following the rains,  1,5 million of wildebeest and thousands of zebras and gazelles travel together in a clockwise direction from Serengeti through Masai Mara. This natural phenomenon is a true show. Along the way, drama is always present, as the week are taken by predators, while others are born, sustaining the circle of life. It is fascinating to watch the animals for a few days and learn about their habits and survival techniques. The itinerary is an excellent choice for family travelling with children, a group of friends or couples who like active trips, as well as for senior travellers. The program includes accommodation at small boutique lodges with a lot of comfort and charm.

Day 1 - Fly to Masai Mara

After landing at NBO airport you will be met by our driver to transfer you to Wilson airport to board the flight to the Masai Mara, a journey of approximately an hour, landing right in the heart of the reserve. A guide will meet you and drive you back to camp, offering the perfect introduction to the vast savannah plains and stopping to watch any wildlife you encounter on the way. Settle into your luxury tent and enjoy lunch and time to relax. In the afternoon, go on a game drive to search for big cats and other wildlife. The guides are superb and know the best spots to seek out the many species found in the Masai Mara, as well as the history and wildlife stories.

Day 2 - Game Drive

Game drives take place in the early to mid-morning and in the mid- to late afternoon, when wildlife is most active, offering the best sightings. The grassy plains are home to a wide range of species, from a pride of lion to cheetah stalking their prey and hippos, wallowing in muddy pools. There is never a dull moment in the Masai Mara. During the heat of the day you will return to camp for a rest, lunch and, of course, the tradition of freshly baked cake and tea or coffee before your afternoon drive. At dinner, share stories of your day’s adventures with other guests.

Day 3 - Hot-Air Balloon

Start the day by taking a hot air balloon over the savannah. Suspended in a basket, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Masai Mara. The flight lasts an hour or so, drifting wherever the air currents take you. You toast your return to earth with a champagne breakfast, cooked wherever you land. After breakfast, drive back to the camp. Relax by the pool or hammock. In the late afternoon, drive to see more wildlife, including good populations of lion, leopard and cheetah, herds of elephant and buffalo, giraffes and zebras.

Day 4 - Walking Safari

Your camp is a private sanctuary where the panorama of the bush bursts into view every time you step out of your tent and as you walk around camp. This morning, you will be walking with an experienced guide in a big-game area so be prepared to encounter anything, including lion or buffalo. Exploring on foot offers a unique perspective and is reminiscent of the early days of safari, when exploration was largely on foot or horseback. For the second part of the day, take an evening game drive around the area to try to spot the “Big 5”. End the day sipping a drink while you watch the sun slip past the horizon. Sunsets are truly magnificent in the savannah.

Day 5 - Fly to Nairobi

After breakfast, check out and transfer towards the airstrip for the morning scheduled flight to Wilson airport Nairobi. Depending on your further travel plans, take some time to relax in Nairobi. Although the city can be quite hectic, there are charming hidden places, surrounded by tall lush trees and blooming exotic flowers. Spring is really colourful in Nairobi with all the purple jacaranda trees in bloom. What a sight! Dining and shopping are very good here. Today enjoy a relaxing time at the lodge or head out to one of the good local restaurant for a dining experience.
