Location: Bakuba Lodge is located in the south-west of Madagascar, 10 km south of Tulear, close to the airport. It’s only 800 m from the sign Tropic of Capricorn.
How to get here: Fly to Tuléar and take a road transfer to the lodge which is under 20 min away.
Structure: Bakuba Lodge is a designer hotel, inspired by the shapes of the Spanish architect Gaudi, mixing with ethnic African elements. The style gives a feeling of a fairy-tale. There are only 6 beautifully decorated units, 3 rooms and 3 suites. One of the rooms is like a labyrinth, partly inside and partly outside, with stairs leading up to a tower for sea views and star gazing. The Masai Suite is the biggest suite of 200 m2 and it is separated from the hotel. There are no doors inside between the bedroom and the bathroom. The designer walls lead you through the suite and you discover so many secret passages. It’s airy, because there are no windows. The bathroom alone is as big as a small apartment. The bathtub looks like it’s made for a queen. The beautiful open air shower has a big hole high above the head.
Why staying here: Bakuba is one of the best places to stay in the area, if you are looking for luxury and style. It is a unique designer hotel and staying here will be a memorable experience. From the lodge there is a beautiful view on a table mountain and there are many excursions you can do in the region, like hiking the table mountain, visiting Grotte de Sarodrano (30 min away by car) and more. The nearby beach is covered by mangroves and is not the most beautiful one compared to other beaches here. But you can always visit other beaches by car.
