Is December a good time to visit Madagascar? It depends. It is the start of the wet season. Travelling in the beginning of the month can still be good mainly in the south, but advancing to the middle of the month there is a higher chance of rain and powerful cyclones. Some national parks are impossible to travel to due to muddy roads. Destructive cyclones can occur during this time of the year and we consider that it is not the best time to go to Madagascar. We would rather recommend doing your trip in early November or wait till the end of March.
However, this is one of the best times to visit Masoala, which is located in a protected bay. While the whole country is experiencing rains, here it is peaceful and calm. The driest months of the year here are from October until the end of December. It is rare that a jersey is required in this season, temperatures ranging from 20°C at night to 35°C on the hottest days. This is the season when the birds and mammals are most active in the early morning and the sea is usually calm and clear.
