Location: Set in an elevated position of Antananarivo city in Madagascar, a few hundred metres from the famous Faravohitra Cathedral, Maison Galliéni is a historic mansion which has been converted into a high quality bed-and-breakfast hotel. Once it the first bank in all of Madagascar
How to get here: Take a 30-40 min transfer from Antananarivo Airport.
Structure: On the ground floor there is a reception, a library, an outdoor lounge and a small garden with a heated swimming pool. Up the spiral staircase, a large modernist lounge and dining area where dinner and breakfast are served at a large communal table enjoy fabulous views out across the city. On the first floor there is an elegant lounge with a fireplace for cooler evenings, a dining room and a veranda with views out over the city. There are just four large bedrooms, each a sumptuous blend of mid-century and colonial design with enormous beds and (quite possibly) the best internet connection in the city. No two rooms are the same but all have high ceilings and are dotted with a pleasing combination of occasional antiques and mid-century pieces.
Why staying here: Service here is low key and friendly with a particularly homely feel making it a fabulous retreat from the bustle outside. Maison Gallieni is a perfect beginning and send-off for your Madagascar holiday: its excellent service is a welcome after a long-haul flight and its serene comfort a joy after time in the Madagascar countryside.

This trip is for the adventure seekers and travelers who like being close to nature. This is definitely a road trip with some portions covered by boat. The itinerary offers a slow-paced journey into the western region of Madagascar, the land of Sakalava and Menabe. Since flying within the country can sometimes be unreliable, a road trip comes handy. During the river cruising overnight is done in tents with a romantic dinner by the campfire. You will get to see Tsingy and the majestic baobabs too. The trip can be done both on a private and shared basis. Get in touch for more info about scheduled departures. Off we go!
