Return flights to South Africa start from £800 per person, depending on the connections and time of the year. Fly to Cape Town (CPT) or to Johannesburg (JNB).

When to Visit

The optimal time for your visit the Western Cape is between December and March, although the tranquil autumn (March-May) and vibrant spring (September-November) months offer ideal conditions for hiking and wine tasting.

Day 1 - Robben Island

Welcome to Cape Town, the Mother City. Begin your adventure by exploring the rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning architecture of South Africa’s oldest city. Embark on a guided tour, starting with a boat trip to Robben Island located in Table Bay, where you’ll delve into the country’s past, including the poignant era of apartheid. These tours are led by former political prisoners who provide firsthand accounts of their experiences on the Island. Highlights include a visit to Nelson Mandela’s prison cell and a breathtaking cable car ride up Table Mountain. Overnight at the Ocean View House.

Day 2 - Cape of Good Hope

Today, soak in the natural beauty of the Cape of Good Hope, marking the southwestern most point of the African continent , forming part of the Cape Peninsula. Start with a scenic drive through Cape Town viewing rugged cliffs, and amazing ocean views. A visit to the Boo-kaap, filled by brightly coloured houses is a must see. Indulge in traditional Cape Malay dishes like samoosas, bobotie and koeksisters in the local shops and markets. Travel to Houtbay to catch a 40 minute boat cruise to the Duiker Island and spend the afternoon viewing the wild cape Fur Seals in their natural habitat. Overnight at the Ocean View House.

Day 3 - Cape Town

After breakfast, prepare for an exhilarating day on the water. Begin with a guided kayaking tour, perfect for beginners. Enjoy splendid views of the Table Mountain from the coastline of the Atlantic Sea Board. Alter lunch, hop on a helicopter for a scenic helicopter flight offering panoramic views of Cape Town’s stunning coastline. It’s the most beautiful place on Earth, isn’t it? End the day luxuriously, stepping aboard a boat cruise, soaking in the coastal scenery during the sundowners, before indulging in a delectable three-course dinner at V&A Waterfront. Overnight at Ocean View House.

Day 4 - Lion's Head & Kirstenbosch

Rise early for a refreshing 5.5 km hike up the Lion’s Head (2 hours). The summit offers panoramic views of the city, the Table Mountain and Robben Island, and also serves as the perfect point to witness the sunrise – a truly unforgettable experience. Afterward head to Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden for a leisurely picnic amidst diverse flora and avian species. Wander through the meticulously curated gardens, where you’ll encounter a dazzling array of colorful blooms, aromatic herbs, and towering trees. Spend the afternoon relaxing at Camps Bay Beach, soaking in the sun or surf. Framed by the Twelve Apostles, this iconic beach is pure bliss. Overnight at the Ocean View House.

Day 5 - Gansbaai Adventure

After breakfast, transfer by the scenic road to Gansbaai (2 hrs), a charming fishing town located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. This town has rich marine biodiversity with a great population of white sharks and southern right whales. If you are a thrill seeker dive into a cage for a safe and guided experience with the sharks or observe the sharks from the boat. Afterward, savor a decadent two-course meal at the Manor House. Continue to your lodge, located amidst the serene rolling hills of the South African countryside, and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight at Stanford Valley Country Lodge.

Day 6 - Horseback Riding

Enjoy breakfast before embarking on a 2-3 hour horseback ride either through the beach trail or to the mountains along the Fynbos Trail. There is a weight limit of 95 kg to ride the horses. If you opt for the beach trail you will get the opportunity to swim with the horses, if the weather allows. On the mountain Fynbos trail you will experience the splendid fauna and flora of the cape region. In the afternoon visit the Klipgat Caves, an archaeological site where you will gain insights on prehistoric human occupation. Return to your heaven of bliss for the evening. Overnight at Stanford Valley Country Lodge.

Day 7 - Wine Tasting

After breakfast, transfer to Franschoek (2 hours), a charming town nestled amidst the majestic mountains of the Cape Winelands, renowned as the Food and Wine Capital of South Africa. The day will b filled with wine tours, cheese and chocolate pairings. There are over 80 restaurants in Franschoek, serving a wide variety of cuisines and styles – from casual eateries along the main road to award-winning gourmet. After lunch, marvel at the picturesque Stellenbosch mountains and sample award-winning wines and non-alcoholic beverages for the little ones at a renowned estate. From the classic elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon to the crisp acidity of Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch’s terroir produces wines of exceptional quality and character. Overnight at La Cabriere Country House.

Day 8 - Big Five Safari

After breakfast, transfer to Aquila Private Game Reserve (2 hours), a sanctuary nestled within the picturesque landscape of the Western Cape. Prepare for an exciting safari experience. Enjoy welcome drinks upon arrival before heading out for an afternoon game drive, seeking out the Africa’s iconic Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino). Depending on your preference, you can have the safari by four-wheel drive, quad bikes or horseback. After safari, return to the lodge and indulge in a delicious dinner under the stars. Overnight at Aquila Private Game Reserve.

Day 9 - Departure

Rise early for a final game drive, maximizing your chances of spotting elusive wildlife. Return for a hearty breakfast before bidding farewell to the safari experience. Transfer back to Cape Town (2 hours), concluding your unforgettable journey through the Western Cape’s diverse landscapes and attractions. You can choose to stay a few more days and explore the coast lying north of Cape Town. During springtime this region is full of wild flowers, creating colorful carpets of a sublime beauty.
